About St.Anthony's Boys' Sec. School
St. Anthony’s Boys’ Secondary School, Paharganj, New Delhi – 110055 is situated in the heart the city, a Christian Minority Educational Institution, administered by Delhi Catholic Archdiocese. It has been imparting education for past 91 years to the very poor students of the society. The school was established in the year 1922 for boys and girls as Co-ed by Rev. Fr. Luke, a Catholic Priest. In 1934 Mother Beniegna of St. Anthony’s Convent joined and started a separate school for Girls. The school gradually rose to Middle School in the year 1948. With the efforts of Rev. Fr. C. J. Alvares, Manager (1952- 68) and Mr. H. O. Banerjee, Principal (1954 – 1964). From 1956, the school started imparting education up to Higher Secondary. After the transfer of Rev. Fr. Alvares, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Pinto, a lecturer in Delhi’s prestigious Hindu College took over as the manager of the school. At that time Mr. S.D.M. Pereira was the Principal. After the retirement of Mr. Pereira, in 1968, Mr. S. G. Mampilli was appointed as the Principal of the school. Mr. S.G. Mampilli worked tirelessly for 18 years with the constant support of Late Archbishop Angelo Fernandes, Chairman. Late Rev. Fr. Lawrence Pinto served as Manager of the school from March, 1968 to July, 1992. The school touched the greatest heights during their period. As a result, the school produced students who served the Nation in various capacities up to rank of Additional Commissioner of Delhi Police. Session Judge and various Govt. Officials. The New Education Policy was implemented by the Govt. of India in the year 1976 with the introduction of 10 + 2 system of education. Due to lack of space the school remained up to class 10th. After the retirement of Mr. S.G. Mampilli, in 1987, Mr. Justin Fernandez took over as Principal with the blessings of the Most Rev. Angelo Fernandez, the Archbishop of the Delhi and worked for 10 years. After the retirement of Mr. Justin Fernandez, Mr. P.K.N.Chand, Mr. Sunny Ambrose, Mr. Mathew George, Mrs. Barbara Rodricks, Mr. J. B. Sharma, Mrs. Violet Johnson served the school from the period from September 1997 to September 2009. In 1992 Rev. Fr. Lawrence Pinto was transferred and Rev. Fr. Samuel Williams was appointed as Manager. After the transfer of the Fr. S. Williams Rev. Fr. Fredrick Viegas, Rev. Fr. Ayres Fernandes and Rev. Mankiya Raju were appointed as Managers by the Most Rev. Alan de Lastic, Archbishop of Delhi. After sudden death of the Most Rev. Alan de Lastic, the Most Rev. Vincent M. Concessao took over as the New Archbishop of Delhi. Rev. Fr. George Kureethra served the school as a manager for a short –period of time. Rev. Fr Cirilo F. Rodrigues was appointed as the Manger of the school in the year 2002-03, Rev. Fr. Vincent Salvatore as Manager from 2003-06, Rev. Fr. Anthony Francis 2006-07 and again Rev. Fr. Cirilo R. F. Rodrigues 2007-09, Rev. Fr. Mathew Koyickal 2009-11, Fr. Mathew P.J 2012-2013, Fr. Peter Emmanuel 2013. At present, St. Anthony’s Boy’s School is imparting education and nurturing the future of students under the leadership of Mr. Vinod Joseph Singh, VICE-PRINCIPAL, to the poorest of poor students of the locality in which 34% of students are Scheduled Caste students and 21% of are Muslims. Generally parents of the student are working as thela walas, patri walas and daily wage workers. In 2012, Rev. Fr. Susai Sebastian was appointed as the New Chairman of Diocesan Schools of Archdiocese of Delhi. He has shown keen interest and love for St. Anthony’s Boy’s School.
