Kendriya Vidyalya - KV Powai

A pioneer in the field of education, KVS has been a pace setting institution ever since its inception in 1964. With more than 921 Vidyalayas across the Country & the globe, it strives for imparting quality education & resurgence of mental and emotional aspects of human potential. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Indian Institution of Technology (KV IIT), Mumbai has been one of its major wings since 1964 and has carved a niche for itself with its excellent result in the board examinations. Our well placed alumnus is our greatest asset. We comprise of 70 experienced, loving and sincere teachers, a set of 2043 dedicated students, our non-teaching staff and me, as a father for all. Our major focus has always been on the overall development of the child. Each child is promised individual attention and ample opportunities to explore the world outside his/her prescribed syllabus, we assure that once out of school, our children will face the Corporate world with tremendous confidence and belief in themselves and their abilities. For this, along with academics, which is always our first preference, we encourage the child to participate in various sports and co-curricular activities, both technical and non-technical, so as to bring out their skills. We also have various clubs for which a child becomes a member out of his/her interest in that field, such as the Nature club, Science Club, Literary Club and so on. The Students' Council of the Vidyalaya enables a direct interaction of the students with the faculty. Efforts have also been made to bring our kids close to the environment. We are blessed with a highly effective PTA (Parent Teacher Association). At this point I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the high officials of IIT who have been continuously helping us by guiding us, giving us advice wherever and whenever required and providing us with resources at short notices. Our ever supportive parents have always been our motivation to perform better for our children. The school has been identified as one among the pioneer institutions of KVS for the quality improvement programme of “ACCREDITATION” by NABET. The quality council of India helped the school to achieve this target in the academic year 2009-10 Situated in the picturesque surroundings of IIT Bombay, K.V.I.I.T. Powai started functioning on 15th June, 1964. It was in the year 1958, the Indian Institute of Tech., Bombay started functioning with retired Brigadier S.K.Bose as its first Director. In the year 1959 the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of the Powai Campus. Gradually as the number of residents on the campus increased a need was felt for the education of the wards of IIT employees. So there came up a nursery and a K.G. School. Initially there was the K.G. School housed in the two rooms, which today are, the Principal's Chamber and the School Office.
