About Atomic Energy Central School - AECS 1
Getting to do something heroic is not everyones cup of tea. Our little township of Anushaktinagar can boast of one great hero, who changed the lives of almost all who dwell here. A visionary who dared to dream; who unfolded his dreams to reality. The legendary Dr. Homi Bhaba. The colony of Anushaktinagar is his brainchild. Let us rewind and retreat back to a few years and look through the eyes of our mentor, then a brilliant young scientist who began writing the history of the years to come: Let us begin our journey from 1966. The survey began. AECS-1 was laid in 1966 by the auspicious hands of Dr. Homi Bhaba. He gave the township a perfect gift – the beginning of an educational era in Anushaktinagar. Now came the task of recruiting the teachers. Early Pioneers: Four Primary teachers were recruited, the four pillars of the school: Smt Raj Kohli, Smt Vidya Nakashi, Smt S.B Verma and Smt Shobha Bose. by Shri R Parthsarathy (Principal) and Shri P.G. Kulkarni (Vice-Principal) “Dream what you dare to dream Go where you want to go, Be what you want to be, Believe in yourself – and others will to “ With a clear vision, a dream to achieve, a mission to accomplish, the pioneering team began its journey with the first school AECS-1 getting functional in June 1969. Primary school was their original aim. We began with K.G. I, II, and III Std with one section each with 20/25 students in each class and a total strength of 100 students in its first year. The school worked in the general shift (9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.)The school was in a position to supply a mid day meal of biscuits and a glass of milk during the recess. Shri Parthasarathy was the Principal, he did the spade work- syllabus planning for the year, he set up the calendar. In the second year to raise the standard of the school he sent the four teachers for in-service training to Kendriya Vidyalaya. Within a year, he was promoted as Education Officer and Shri P.D. Agarwal took over. As the number of students increased and promotion from std III to Std IV was necessary, two more classes Std IV and Std V were added. There were enough number of classrooms to have the school functioning. Some more teachers joined the school. The librarian, Smt Indira Ranganthan was appointed and a library was set up in the school. The teachers got started on preparing the graded syllabus for all the classes Shri P.D.Aggarwal promoted extra-curricular activities like sports, cultural activities, celebrations of festivals, and rewarding meritorious students. Shri Kulkarni, the next Principal increased the number of divisions in each class while maintaining the teacher: student ratio to 1:30 He set up a book shop where there was none before to overcome the difficulty of procuring books and stationary. The prayer, which we have at AECS-1 each dawn generates constructive vitality. Daya kar daan vidya ka hame parmathma dena……….. a beautiful prayer invoking blessings to purify our body, mind and soul and instill in us the values of life. For administration and smooth functioning of the system, role of supervisor was introduced. This pattern continued till 2004. As little babies grow, as the bud blooms, so did AECS-1. With the growing strength of our students and under pressure from parents and employees, the school was to be raised from Primary to Secondary. There was a mushroom growth of other schools in the vicinity. The need for a Secondary school gained momentum. Work on the expansion of the building soon began and a new wing was added. It was inaugurated on 26th July 2004 by the hands of Shri S. K. Jain, CMD, NPCIL. Standards were increased in stages from VI to X. The school is fully functional today with strength of 1200 pupils, 70 staff members and classes from Pre-Prep to Tenth.
