Deciduous trees are trees that lose their leaves in the autumn. Evergreen trees, such as most conifers, lose their leaves gradually all year round. Deciduous trees are also called broad-leaved trees because their leaves are broader than those of conifers. All deciduous trees have flowers, although the flowers are not always obvious. Leaves are green in summer because they contain chlorophyll. In autumn, the leaf s supply of water is blocked. As the leaf dries out it turns different colours before it falls.
