Scotiabank - Student GIC Program

1) Student from India applying to study in Canada establish a Guaranteed Investment Certificate to apply for a Study Permit.

2) Scotiabank is the only Canadian financial institution that participates in the Student Partner Program (SPP) in India. Through this program, you may choose to purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from Scotiabank in the amount of $10,000 CAD.

3)To apply, simply complete the application form and submit it by email or mail.

4) Once application is accepted Scotiabank will open a GIC for a 1-year term and email you the GIC account number within 10 business days, along with other remittance details, which will allow for a wire transfer of $10,000 CAD (plus $100 CAD to cover administration fees etc.) funds from India.

5) After reaching Canada need to activate the GIC and open deposit account. Once the account is opened, an initial amount of $2,000 CAD will be transferred to your deposit account. The remaining amount will be automatically transferred in four (4) equal instalments of $2,000 CAD every two months.

Cost of studying Canada can be divided in to three parts (for ease of understanding):

Tuition Fees and Living Cost:
1.) Tuition fees in Canada ranges from CAD$6,000 to CAD$30,000 per year (approx. Rs. 3,12,000 to Rs.15,50,000 p.a). Average cost of living per month including everything should be between $600 to $800 (approx. Rs. 33,000 to Rs. 44,000 p.m)

Cost of Application: -
1.) Application fees - $50 to $150 per University
2.) Courier Charges - Rs 1200 to Rs 1500 per University
3.) Academic test exams - $100 to $200 per examination
4.) Scores reporting - may cost up to $ 20 per University
5.) Other Costs (like insurance, air travel to Canada, visa fee, etc.)

Other Costs:
6.) Air tickets - $500 to $2000
7.) Health / Medical Insurance - $300 to $500 per year
8.) Visa Fee - $125 (may change; check the VFS Canada website for updated information)
