About Bengali Education Society's School and Junior College
Bengali Education Society’s School was founded in 1933 as Anglo-Bengali School in Parel. Some eminent Bengalis of yester years felt the need of establishing a school for the children of Bengali residents in Bombay. Shri Biren Sen and his wife Smt. Sisir Kana Sen, were truly in the fore front in building up the school from its nascent stage, and are affectionately called the founding parents of the School. The School which started with 6 children, moved to its present location in the year 1940. The Society was formed in the year 1938, with Hon’be Mr. Justice K.C.Sen, ICS, as one of the Trustees. Also amongst other eminent Bengalis associates was, Mr.S.C.Banerjee, pioneer of the Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd. In the earlier years the school was a Bengali Medium School, up to eighth standard, however with passage of time it had completely switched over as an English Medium School, in the late sixties, while continuing to offer Bengali as a subject, up to S.S.C. Level. The School maintains the rich tradition of celebrating Saraswati Puja annually, just as any school in Bengal. The School while being a linguistic minority institution is open to members of all religions, caste and community. The school is reputed for its academic excellence, and the foundation for the same was laid by eminent educationists of yester years, who served as Principals or as teaching staff of the Secondary or Primary sections from time to time.
