An ionic crystal which has the same unit cell containing the same lattice points throughout the whole of crystal is known as an ideal crystal. An ideal crystal is possible only at absolute zero (0 K) temperature. At temperatures other than absolute zero, certain irregularities are observed. It is very difficult to grow an ideal crystal. Even if great care is taken in growing a single crystal, some internal irregularities are always present.
