This is not only yours but many parents in India face this issue. But i guess there are ways to overcome some problems. I am hereby mentioning few.
1. First of all Maths should be inculcated into daily live activity. One needs to make use of daily surroundings to showcase that Maths is integral part of our lives. From counting money to the use of measuring tape for measuring things at home, you can include your kids in such activities so that maths become fun.
2. Another One of the biggest problem is that most of the times its Parents who portray Maths as some Giant by using negative vocabulary for Math. My maths was poor, my child has inherited the same, Maths is a dry subject, it shouldn’t be compulsory, bla bla.. such language will reinforce the child’s thinking that he/she cannot grasp Maths
3. Also you must consider discussing with your ward’s Maths teacher. Sharing your concerns with the teacher and trying to convince and encourage him or her to clarify all basic fundamentals of your child, should very much help your cause.
4. There are lots of Mathematical puzzles , games, sudoko’s available in the market. Instead of just giving them to your kid to play, it would be more sensible to join your kid and try to solve those puzzles, games with your child by your side. This would leave a great impact on your child .
5. Take your kids to Shopping and let them pay the bill. Maths is more fun when the real money is involved so by Involving them in shopping and paying the bills will generate more interest in them.
My child is too scared of Maths. what can i do? Any suggestions?
